Since toxicology as a field has evolved from a science devoted to investigating poisons and harmful consequences of chemical exposure to a science committed to studying safety, some people refer to it as the "Science of Safety."
Toxicology employs science to make predictions about which substances will be harmful and in what ways, and then it disseminates those findings to safeguard the public's health.
